GRANTS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISTS

GRID-Arendal, the Center Collaborating with UNEP, and SKUP (Stiftelsen for en Kritisk og Undersøkende Presse) are offering 2 grants of NOK 25,000 for environmental investigative journalists working globally on the issues of organized environmental crime for the year of 2016.

The suggested case for investigation should belong to either of 5 areas: illegal logging, fisheries, mining, toxic waste trafficking and dumping, poaching of and trade wildlife.

Grants will help investigative environmental journalists to cover the necessary costs of document retrieval, travel to develop and interview sources, and other investigation-related expenses.

The application should reflect some preliminary research, outlying the importance of the case and some background information on the suggested issue, provide a clear sense of place, characters, narrative and reporting strategy and a publishing plan. It also requires a CV, two letters of recommendation and reference to previous publications.

Applications should be forwarded to Valentin Emelin, the Head of Environmental Crime Program in GRID-Arendal electronically at yemelin@grida.no. The deadline for receiving applications is November 1, 2015. Applications will be reviewed by a joint GRID-Arendal/SKUP selection committee and winning grant recipients will be announced on Christmas Eve on web-sites of GRID-Arendal and SKUP.
